Adopt a Barn Cat
We usually have feral cats looking for homes as "barn cats." All cats will be sterilized and rabies vaccinated prior to being placed in a barn home. There are several things needed in order to safely rehome a feral cat and adopters must agree to follow these steps.
BARN CAT ADOPTERS MUST AGREE TO THE FOLLOWING:
Confine the cat for two weeks
If the cat is not confined for several days the cat will likely leave and try to find its way back to its former home.
During the confinement period the cat will become more comfortable with its surroundings and the cat's scent will be established in that location and help the cat to remain once its released.
Provide a safe environment
It is important that barn cats have a home that includes safe shelter
from the elements and predators.
Provide food and water daily
Barn cats need healthy food and clean water daily. A well fed barn
cat with a prey drive will hunt because it is an instinct. You should
never withhold food in an attempt to force a cat to hunt. Your
barn cat has come to depend on people for food and that may
be all it knows. Plus, there would likely not be enough prey to provide
your cat with proper nutrition to maintain its health.
